For the Dads!

We're celebrating Dads at Sassy Cheryls challenge this week...especially since Father's Day is approaching here in the US.

Sassy Cheryl has so many cute digis that are perfect for masculine cards.. and I chose this one for one of the golfers in our household. Hmmm..... I wonder who?

I decided to get a bit jazzy.... as golfers can be that way. 'Colors are certainly very typical of a few of the outfits you might see on a golf course.

I'm sending special thoughts to all of the Fathers... and to my own. I sure miss him.. and I miss playing golf with him.

Sassy Stuff!

Hi friends.. it's sassy time and that means a new challenge at Sassy Cheryl's.  This week we're working to this sketch created by our design team member, Cathy.

Using this Sassy Cheryl image "Absolutely No Girls", I did this very quick card using Copic markers. I'm always on the hunt for a masculine card...and this little skinny-legged guy is adorable. Nice 'stick's'... don't you agree?

All Aboard!

This week our challenge at Mo's is to create a masculine-theme card, put together by our hostess, Elaine. We can never seem to have enough cards on hand for the guys in our lives. Great theme, Elaine!

I chose this image, one of Mo's older creations, 'cause I love the spirit of this old guy, and I love trains. Living here in the KC area is like train heaven. They are everywhere...you have to be a very patient driver with all of the railroad crossings in this area and you have to leave enough extra time to get where you are going.

Going for the Eagle Putt

This is an image from Mo's Digital Pencil.. called Golfing Guy. If you know anything about golf, he's putting for an eagle (and that's really good!). Anyway, that's what I decided. We always need masculine images for cards, right?

A Masculine Valentine

I often hear most card-makers have a difficult time stocking up on masculine-type greeting cards.. I know I do.  There's just not a whole lot out there!

I didn't want to give my DH a valentine card that even came close to frilly. Using a bright and cheerful designer paper as my inspiration, I created this card and a matching envelope. The card size is 5.5 x 5.5" and the envelope is just slightly larger to accompany the bow and the heart that's popped up. Once I had a layout in mind, and selected coordinating papers that matched the colors in the DP, it was very simple to put together... and no coloring involved!

Even with a heart and a bow, it's not feminine looking because of the very untraditional colors I chose. The quail in the designer paper was perfect inside the heart.

A Cute Little Dude!

Happy Monday everyone! Welcome to a new week. And, just in case you need something to celebrate, today is officially known as "Opposites Day". Don't ask me how they come up with this stuff... I have no clue and I just find some of these things hilarious. But you can read more about this obscure holiday here if you are so inclined. It's certainly not anywhere as funny as last Friday which was 'Measure Your Feet' day!!

 

I took some time this evening to finish up this project and a start a few others. This card definitely has a masculine feel and I certainly need cards like that on hand! I think I'll send this to my uncle for his upcoming 83rd birthday. He's our family patriarch...and I'm safe to post this... he's truly a relic, lives in the dark ages and doesn't own a computer!

 

 

He's a cute little dude... don't you think? I made this card with several challenges in mind...

Something for a little guy...

Hello everyone! Happy Thursday to you my faithful followers and friends. I hope you are having a terrific day and the weather is warming up a bit to something reasonable. Are you as ready for Spring as I am?  Phew.. I can't wait for bulbs to start their blooming! Come on daffodils!

Today my card is designed for the 14th challenge at Mo's Digital Pencil. I am so honored to be part of such a terrific group of talented ladies.You won't believe the creative projects that they do.

Lisa, our hostess for January, provided this terrific sketch for this week's challenge. So hopefully you will have a chance to play along with us at Mo's challenge.

And here's my interpretion of the sketch challenge...

This image is "Anthony" from Mo's Digital Pencil. Since I used a masculine theme, this also is for the challenge at Cards for Men -- it's a fairly new challenge that you should check out! I never seem to have enough masculine cards and stuff for our little (and big) lads when I need them, so, I'm planning to play along in this challenge more often. Thank you Design DIVA Linda P for heading me in this direction... it's terrific!

Meet “The Boyz!!"

Hello everyone in blog land. I hope you are having a terrific and crafty day. I’ve got three cards to show you today.

All were made using images from one of the newest sets called “Boys On The Go” from Mo's Digital Pencil and they are terrific for making cards and 3-D items for the little munchkins in your life.

Maurie’s (aka “Mo”) images are amazing and fun to work with. There’s a new freebie she is graciously offering over at her blog, so stop by, download the freebie, and take a minute to vote on your favorite type of images and then check out her Etsy shop where there are new items every day.

For all of these cards I used Copic markers, white linen paper and Nestabilities.

The third card is made with a center opening which is hidden by the image popped up on the Nestibilities diecut.

KLM Digital Designs

Snips and snails and puppy dog tails.. that's what little boys are made of. This image reminds me of my kids when they were little.. always bringing home some creature they wanted to keep.

Today there's a new release at KLM Digital Designs and the design team has lots in store for you. So head to their blogs to check out all of the creativity for the newest digital images.

Details: I colored this with Prisma and Lyra pencils, blended the colors with Gamsol using tortillons and stumps. The frog and net were colored with Copic markers. The sentiment is computer-generated and I used SU's oval and scallop punches and popped it up with dimensionals. The brads are from Oriental Trading.

You're Out of This World

I wanted to share this card made with one of Dustin Pike's newest digital images recently released. I used copics to color and paper pieced all of the images onto the background digi image which I also colored.

In addition to this release, there's a whole lot of really sweet deals over at his blog...lots of great images, and some are sold in lots of ten images for $10. Great deals to check out! I think these images are great for masculine cards.

Two PTI Challenges

Hello Stampers! Happy Thursday. I’ve got two projects to share with you. Since I have been playing catch-up lately (this is not typical of me!) I needed to focus on two of the most recent Paper Trey challenges over at my blog group.

The first is for Pam’s challenge which is to create a masculine card. My son is quite the guitarist and never had an official lesson. Some people just get this kind of talent naturally. Lucky Thom! I’m sure he’s missing his guitar while he’s away in Basic Training. Since his birthday is approaching this summer, and the fact that I write to him as often as I can, I had to make this card using an image my friend Lelia lent to me. Sorry, but I don’t know the name of the company. But as soon as I saw the image I knew that it would become a card for Thom.

The next challenge is from Katy of KLM Designs. Katy chose a color challenge from a picture of a wall-hanging that she saw at Coldwater Creek. Here are the colors. I love this combination that she used – they are so soft, peaceful and clean looking.

I used one of KLM’s digital images from a recent release for my project. The ribbon is as close as I could get to the color in the challenge.. but all of the other colors are in the prisma-colored image.. you might just have to look closely.

Woof, woof, woof...

One of the things I needed to accomplish today is to make a Father's Day card for my husband. Even though John never had children of his own, he is totally loved by three mini schnauzers and treats them as if they were his kids. It's kind of a mutual thing as they adore him and have separation anxiety when he's gone. And Dad has a hard time being away from them too!

Yesterday while at the Stampers Convention in Collinsville Illinois I bought these stamps by Bugawumps.... they are just perfect for my project. Schnauzers aren't much in color beyond silver, gray, slate and bits of brown.. but they are adorable. That's Molly on the left, her Mom, Mitzi, and dad Buddy.

Remembering Our Military

This Saturday, June 6th commemorates the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied Forces' invasion at the beaches of Normandy, France. Two-hundred and forty-four rangers (most very young boys) scaled Pointe du Huc to take the cliffs for liberation.

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Normandy and most of the WWI and WWII sites in France, while treating my oldest son, Thom (a HUGE military history buff), to a vacation last Fall. The two of us covered most of the northern part of France from Paris to Normandy, to the German border, to the white cliffs of Dover, and onto London, seeing everything we could with cameras in tow. Normandy's beaches, the American Cemetary, and the surrounding countryside is all so very touching and I felt especially proud to be an American. I learned so much about the history, strategy and tactics of both Wars through the eyes and knowledge of my son.

Thom left for Boot Camp over three weeks ago.. and until today all we had was the brief, obligatory phone call to say he arrived safely at the Base. Today, FINALLY, there's mail, and it's such a pleasure to now have an address to send him letters and cards. I'm not sure homemade chocolate chip cookies are permitted just yet!! But you know once they're allowed he'll be getting care packages, just like his Dad and our cousins got during the VietNam war and since. The tradition continues.

Coincidently, I made this card today so I could send to him, knowing I would hear from him sometime soon. But with this anniversary approaching, I was also thinking of D-Day and the solemn, sobering feelings it brings knowing I walked on the same beaches where US and Allied soldiers were in combat 65 years ago.

Upcoming Blog Hop and a Card for Father’s Day

Happy Friday stampers! Before I tell you about my card, I wanted to let you know what’s happening this holiday weekend. The Cards for Heroes Volunteers have a bloghop in the works and the response from the papercrafting world has been unbelievable… please check back here tomorrow, Saturday, after 2:00 CDT to see what’s in store. And now for a card. This is another Dustin Pike image that was released this week. Can you imagine that there are ten images for ten dollars again this week!  Wow… what a deal. I especially like that I can resize the image for the project I have in mind. That’s so cool.

This adorable dragon is a handy kind-of-guy…We all know there isn’t a whole lot in the way of masculine images, so this image is a very welcome addition to my collection.

Dustin Pike’s Digital Images

Here’s another image from Dustin Pike’s release yesterday. Since I didn’t have paper with a pirate look, I got on the internet and found a map and printed it.. it already had a distressed look and it was perfect for the background on this card.  This is another great image for a masculine card.

KLM Designs’ Digital Images

This is one of the newest digital creations of KLM Designs, and this darling image is just perfect for Father’s Day.

Mother and daughter team, Sue and Katy, have been busy at work creating some great images, so please stop and check out what’s available. They’ve got new things being added all the time.

I used SU designer paper, printed my image onto 80lb cardstock, and colored with Prisma and Lyra pencils. My sentiment is computer-generated.
