Sugar Creek Hollow - Color Challenge

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow...

This week we have a color challenge for you. We want you to make vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards featuring CREAM, BLUE & BROWN.

One random winner will receive a digi of our choice and a winner's badge to display. In addition, the Design Team will choose one project as Card of the Week and the creator will receive a badge and will be in the
running for a Guest Designer spot.

For this challenge, I pulled this rather old stamp out from my collection because it's one of my all time favorites for coloring and I was in a coloring mood. It's "Three Home Nest" from Stampendous, circa 1998 and it still makes for a beautiful card that welcomes Spring. It's colored with both Copics and Prisma pencils which you can always do.. as long as the pencils come after the Copics. Pencils really help to create shadow areas, at least I think so.

Catered Crop

We've got a new challenge going on at Catered Crop... and it's to create a card or paper project using newsprint/bookprint/script which has been a hot element in card-making for quite some time. We always have an inspiration board to share with you...our Top Chef, Linda McClain always creates the best boards. And, this week we're sponsored by Texana Designs - so check out their unique stamp collection.

I wanted to create a homespun/vintage look and I think this fits the bill. The image is not colored with pencils or markers, but is a digital download I found online at the Graphics Fairy... what wonderful things you can find there.

I did the crackle technique over the rooster image using several coats of UTEE. I chose to use a page from an elementary school version of Webster's Dictionary for the newsprint and everything was antiqued with distress inks. It was an enjoyable project to pull together.

All My Favorite Things

In a house full of men, I often pull a card out along this line to get my girly fix. It's a delightful and fun image from Mo's Digital Pencil, where our challenge this week is "All My Favorite Things". Someday my granddaughter (if I ever have one) will enjoy lots of pink and all of the colors that go with it so well... it will truly be pink-a-licious!

Dorcas is the hostess at Mo's challenge this week and her theme is "All My Favorite Things". This is called "Big Shoes". Isn't she adorable? I think she's wearing all of her favorite things and the feminine combination of these colors can be counted as one of my favs also.

She was colored with copic markers and I stitched around the edges before adding chalk ink for accent. The designer papers are all Basic Grey and the cardstock, SU.

For our challenge this week, hostess Sassy Jeni set the theme with a color combo of "Light Blue & Brown"... another one of my favs. Truth be told, I would rather work on a color combo challenge than a sketch challenge any day.. how 'bout you? Out of curiosity, what's your favorite type of challenge?

I haven't colored this cheerful little cutie digi from Sassy Cheryl ("I Love You This Much") in a while and she seems to be a favorite amongst my friends. You just can't help but smile when you see her and there's so many sentiments you could conjure up to go with her expression. Since I never seem to have enough birthday cards around when I need them, what better time than now to get ahead a bit and Sassy Jeni's challenge theme was the perfect excuse.

Everything about my card, with the exception of the kraft card base, was pulled from my ever-growing scrap pile. Using a square nesties, I did the 'out of the box' technique around this little sweetie, added a bit of embossing, and all of the papers were antiqued with Tim Holtz distressed inks. I must have been in a bit of a polka dot mood!

All Things Girly at Sugar Creek Hollow

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow and a new challenge. This week we want you to GO GIRLY and make very feminine vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards.

Well, since we often think of 'girly' as soft pastel colors and cute little images, I tried to do something a bit different. I think this would be a great card for any BFF!

It's a bit hard to see in my photo, but these fabulous gals have a bit of green in their outfit and it matches the cashmere felted heart perfectly. Yes, cashmere, because my darling husband shrank my favorite, mostest-bestest-ever gorgeous sweater. He is now banned from the laundry room (except to do his own clothes, of course!).

Something bright and cheery is the theme that my bud Sassy Dawn set for this week's challenge at Sassy Cheryl's.

My creation has a bit of a Valentine feel, but it would be great for just about any occasion. I need more of those type of cards on hand. 'Never know when an occasion might pop up and I'll need an 'all-occasion' card.

'Remember lamps like this? Chances are that your great aunt or grandmother had one sitting on a maple side table. My recollection is a soft, pearl-like peach color and that's what I tried to recreate. I was super happy about how the brass base turned out with Copics.

Catered Crop Meets Jelly Park

Illustrator Claire Keay is the owner of Jelly Park, and our sponsor for this week's challenge at Catered Crop. You might have met Claire and her darling little peeps before when she designed for My Favorite Things.

Even her logo is adorable. There's all kinds of cute digital stamps, party and craft supplies and more at her shop. The Catered Crop design team was treated to a couple of Claire's images for use in this challenge, and you can see all of them at the Catered Crop challenge blog in the upcoming days.

The challenge recipe ingredient for this week is buttons... and we've got an inspiration photo for you. Just use a button (or buttons) on your card and link it up at the Catered Crop kitchen. We'd love to see what you create.

I'm always at a loss for card layout ideas as I prefer to keep things a bit on the simple side and not so busy. So, I cased a layout I found on Dawn B's blog, my dear friend who shares similar styles and likes as me (Thanks, Dawn!). AND... she just joined us at Catered Crop. You will love her creations.

Isn't she adorable? Her little coat and scarf were paper pieced. All designer papers are from DCWV's Nana's Nursery. There's a bit of icy glitter on the ground, and the sentiment is ?? - mounted on a sheet of plastic without a company name. I love the soft, feminine look of this card.

I'm often asked about the miniatures that I use in my photos. I guess I'll have to 'fess up and admit that I love miniatures - another very expensive hobby. The little items I use are from the "General Store" that my kids and I put together over 30 years ago. How would you like to have been surprised by this dollhouse for the dollhouse? It was made for me by my oldest son, Thom, when he was about seven years old - and yes, he used an x-acto blade when I wasn't home. It looks pretty beat up now and has seen better days... but I will treasure it forever. 'So creative and thoughtful for a mere seven-year old.

I'll get the General Store cleaned up and share that with you soon. It's definitely going to be passed on to my first granddaughter, someday.

Sugar Creek Hollow - Save a Tree

This is the first challenge of 2012 at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week, the design team's challenge is for us to save a few trees and what a great way to start off the new year. So, for this challenge we need to repurpose paper towels, toilet paper or coffee filters. Instead of buying more supplies for your project think outside the box...just grab one of the above items and transform it to incorporate into your vintage, shabby chic or primitive card or other paper-crafted project.

After giving this a bit of thought, I created this card.

I took a stack of coffee filters and ran them through my Big Shot using the Nesties round/scallop dies in three sizes. Then I wasn't crazy about the size I had created and trimmed the outer petals down drastically. The petals are tinted with a light touch of SU's Blush Blossom ink and the flower is held together with a small pink brad. The end result really reminded me of the Peony's that bloom every Spring in my garden and I wish I had a picture to share with you. The color is spot-on! The poster is repurposed from a Paris 2010 calendar given to me by my good friend, Sally. I just couldn't part with these pics when the year was up. The print on the chipboard scroll is from an old Webster's Elementary Dictionary... circa 1962.

"New Beginnings"'... that's our theme at Sassy Cheryl's challenge this week, set by my teammate, Sassy Ann.

Since there's no new babies coming along soon for any of my friends, no new house to celebrate, I chose to think about my New Year's resolutions for this year... and that is to simply take things a little easier. You know, like 'stop and smell the roses' more often; enjoy the simple things in life. Life is stressful enough, right?

It's sassy time... time for Sassy Cheryl's weekly challenge. Although this challenge is set for two weeks so the sassy gals get a bit of time to spend enjoying the holidays.

Hostess Sassy Judy's theme is a Snowman with a Die Cut.. and I couldn't resist coloring up these two cuties.

For my die cut, I used felted wool and a Sizzix die called "Primitive Hearts"... just perfect for the love that is apparent for this snowy couple.

Silent Night, Holy Night

Another card with untraditional Christmas colors as I practice more shabby chic and vintage designs. My new daughter-in-law just fell in love with this card, so it's already slated to give to her and my son for Christmas. (They aren't blog followers, so it's cool!). I wanted to share this with you before it heads out the door.

I love the combination of kraft and pale blue.. there's something so calming about the combination and who couldn't use a bit more 'calm' at this time of year. There's snow and glitter on the swirl chipboard, all is antiqued with Tim Holtz' Tea Dye distress ink, the ribbon is seam binding that I dyed with a copic pen using an air brush. The charm is one that I had in my ever-growing stash.

This card is perfect for this time of year and all of the Christmas challenges right now. So, I'm going into overload and entering this in these challenges:

This is about the most un-traditional Christmas card I think I've ever created. This Sassy Cheryl image just speaks 'attitude'.. and this little gal has just that. I think she might be getting a bit of coal in her stocking.

I stitched around the edges of my image onto Kraft cardstock. She's colored in Copic markers and my sentiment is computer generated with lots of the new fonts I've recently downloaded from Amanda and Kevin's site.

Santa Baby!

Santa is the theme that Miz Judy set for us at Sassy Cheryl's challenge this week and what better excuse than this to get another Christmas card made for mailing. I can't believe how far behind the eight-ball I am this year... where does the time go?

So, here's my card for the challenge.

I scanned a calendar that I had and resized it for my background paper. After coloring up Santa and Snowy, cut them out to paper piece. There's snowy glitter on the hem of Santa's suit and also on the Martha Stewart snowflakes. For the sign, I cut up a toothpick and mounted my sentiment. Easy peasy!!

Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow

I've had this under wraps for a bit, and now I get to share this great news with you. I have been asked to join the DT gals at Sugar Creek Hollow... a place where vintage, shabby chic and primitive all come together. First, it's a style I love, and second, a style I'm longing to work on and become better at. Know what I mean?

So, it's Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow and that means a new challenge. Before I get to the challenge, let me tell you about some changes to the Sugar Creek Hollow Design Team.

First, we are losing a couple of our wonderful designers because of family commitments. Marsha has been with Sugar Creek Hollow since the very beginning and her wonderful vintage designs will be missed. While Heide hasn't been with us as long, she has inspired us all each week with some gorgeous designs. Renee is going to stay with the team but will be scaling back her participation. Starting in the New Year she will become our Feature Artist and will share how recycling and repurposing are done the vintage way. These ladies have made valuable contributions to the Sugar Creek Hollow team.

So, I am one of the three new designers starting in January. All of us are sharing our vintage beauties for this challenge so you can get a preview of things to come.

Here's my Delicious Doodles digi (called "Christmas Candles") in non-traditional colors...

I love this clean and simple look... white on cream and a bit of Nesties, lace and several coats of crystal lacquer. I paper pieced the poinsettias and doubled them up over the original digital image. Kept everything in a pale peach color.

This reminds me of the first time I saw poinsettias that were other than red or white. I lived in San Diego and often got to visit the Paul Ecke Poinsettia Ranch in Encinitas, California, North San Diego County and that became the only place where I would buy Poinsettias. The poinsettias Ecke grew were amazing.

It's Winter at Sassy Cheryl's Challenge

Well, it's not officially "winter" here in the northern hemisphere, but it sure feels like it most mornings. This sassy chick opened her eyes at 'zero-dark-thirty', saw a bit of light, turned on the electric blanket, then rolled over for another two hours. What a great morning to tuck in again and curl up.

Each Tuesday is challenge time at Sassy Cheryl's. We've had so much fun with two back-to-back "Anything Goes" challenges... and participation has been fantastic. This week we get to move on to Sassy Pat's new challenge.... "Winter".

Here's what I created for Sassy Pat's 'winter' challenge...

This sassy gal was simply cut out, added to a base of green acrylic painted paper turned into Sizzix Christmas trees that I ran through a dotted Swiss Cuddlebug folder, and some snow covered hills topped with dimensional snow effects -- just to give it a bit of texture. Snowflakes are from a MS punch... the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

Sassy Cheryl's Weekly Challenge

It's not only time for the new challenge at Sassy Cheryl's but I get to show you my card from last week when we played "Stump the Boss". For last week's challenge, I had another card on my blog, but it wasn't mine.. it belonged to my sassy friend, Judy, and that girl really knows how to work those prisma pencils.. she is blessed!! Sassy Cheryl did a fantastic job of guessing all of the cards correctly that the sassy gals created.

At Sassy Cheryl's, the sassy and very feisty design team is playing "Stump the Boss" (along with our "Anything Goes" challenge). Sassy Cheryl loves to try to guess the designer of each card just by looking at it without any watermarks or hints. But she didn't fare that well the last time we did this. Do you think she will guess correctly?

You get to play along in this super challenge. I have the honor of being the hostess for our challenge this week at Sassy Cheryl's. So, I chose 'embossing'... of any type. I am trying to concentrate solely on Christmas cards, although the need for them seems to shrink year after year due to the convenience of the internet.

By the way, we're looking for a guest designer to join us for the month of December. So one lucky person will be selected from the entries of the challenges for the remainder of November (Nov 15, 22 and 29). If you are so inclined, perhaps you will join us and try your hand.

Anyway, this happy duo has been sitting in my 'to-do' pile for some time now so it was long overdue for some lovin' and this was the perfect challenge.

I added some textured snow to the circle as well as the punched snowflakes, then added some silver brads. If anyone can suggest something for better picture taking, I sure would love to hear it. This looks so much better in real life and my pictures sure look awful lately.

At the Catered Crop challenge, the results are in and the very talented Cheryl Gorka had two entries... both of which were chosen for our recipe challenge inspiration for this week. Cheryl celebrated both Fall and Winter and used these ingredients in her cards.

Stamps: girls, banners, farmer, crow
Colors: pink/burgundy, green; jewel tone fall colors
Theme: Christmas or Fall
Inks: Distress Ink, markers
Papers: stripes and polka dots (in the green paper that you can hardly see), kraft
Tools: sewing machine, die cuts (for the sunflower), circle punch
Embellishments: Fun Flock, seam binding, gemstones, spray/glimmer mists, glitter jingle bells, lace, buttons, burlap, twine, and cord

From the list of Cheryl's ingredients, the items in red are the ingredients that I chose to use from her creations to make this card for Autumn.... my favorite season!

I recently found the sunflower flower tutorial that Linda Coughlin, The Funkie Junkie, created and shared with us. I've always been in awe of her creativity from when we were on a design team together. She does such great work. Being in the sunflower state of Kansas, I had to try my hand at making this adorable embellishment. I see a lot of potential for this flower.

It's always nice to have a "Thank You" card on hand.. and I am very fortunate to have a few close friends that I would send this to... you know, the kind of friend that would tell you there's a wad of spinach stuck in your front tooth.

Happy Halloween!! It's hard to think of my East Coast friends spending Halloween in snow, but it did happen. Yikes!! I sure don't like those 'sneak attacks' that Mother Nature does from time-to-time.

Here's one of my favorite Halloween digis from Sassy Cheryl's... you may remember that I also colored this up for our last challenge at Sassy Cheryl's. But it's a cute and fun image that can be used anytime of the year.. depending on the sentiment that you might want to add.

I love adding the miniatures that I've collected over the years to my photos... brings a bit of interest.

Sugar Creek Hollow Guest Designer

I think this is called 'bragging rights'... I have the privilege of being the guest designer this week at Sugar Creek Hollow... what an honor to participate and to also catch up with some blog friends that I haven't been in touch with for a while.

The challenge this week at Sugar Creek Hollow is to use vellum on our card or paper project and the style can be vintage, shabby chic or even primitive and distressed. The more I play in this style of card making the more I enjoy it... as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

So, after a bit of playing around with lots of different media, here's what I created... I would say it's rather shabby-chic!

There isn't one speck of colored pencils or markers... not one blessed thing to color up and I loved it...what a great change for me.

I used the Christmas Tree die cut from Sizzix, covered the trees with liquid snow and covered that with glitter and pearls. Well, I covered everything with glitter.. there's glitter all over my craft grotto.. in the bathroom, in my bedding, in my shoes and stuck to my skin... even after two days and three showers. Go figure!! Suddenly I remembered why I don't use glitter often. God help the lucky person who gets this as their Christmas card... they will be 'blessed' with glitter as well.

Cheryl Alger (aka "Sassy Cheryl) draws the cutest little snow people.. and this one is no exception. So, here's a sneak peek at just one of the newest stamps from Cheryl available at Kraftin' Kimmie's shop.

It's called "A Cup of Cozy Wishes" as you can see by the sentiment. I just love coloring these little guys in some non-traditional Christmas colors. In fact, snow peeps aren't limited to Christmas only, but perfect for creating just about any type of greeting you might need during the cold winter months. Snow peeps are certain to bring a smile to the recipient's face.

Think Pink with a Die Cut

That's the theme at Sassy Cheryl's challenge this week and it's in keeping with our month-long theme using pink to commemorate Breast Cancer awareness. And this week we added a die cut to the mix.

So, I thought, why not a pink Christmas card? I usually have so many holiday cards made by this time of the year, so I'm really behind the eight ball and gotta get my rear in gear.

Somehow it wouldn't seem like October unless we had a lot of pink ribbons everywhere. Locally, at our City Hall, they turn the water in the fountain pink to commemorate Breast Cancer month. That's pretty cool.

Well, at Sassy Cheryl's this week, we're thinking pink also.... along with a challenge theme of "Anything Goes". Anyone can play along in the challenge; it's no longer limited to just Sassy Cheryl images. (By the way, Sassy Cheryl's sale.. Buy two and get one free... is still running. So check it out.

This is what I made for the challenge.. and I have such a sense of humor (if I do say so myself) that I had to make up this image for an anniversary card for a friend to give to her husband. Whatcha think?

Do you have those days where you just want to color, color, color? I do...and fortunately I often have images all colored up and ready to be turned into cards. This stamped image is from one of those days when I got so lost just coloring... with not a care in the world. Does that happen to you?

You probably have heard me write about Fall being my favorite season.. it truly is. I find myself much more motivated when the drastic heat goes away.

This is a Whipper Snapper stamp that I've colored every Fall for the last few years. It's one of my all-time favs for card-making and giving and just perfect for coloring with Prismacolor pencils. It's funny how some images are perfect for copics, and others perfect for pencil coloring.. and sometimes even a bit of both.

It's time for the "Follow The Recipe" challenge at Catered Crop. Each challenge, the top chefs stir up their own recipe using the ingredients of the winning entry from the last challenge, which was Sara's entry. In her darling creation, she used these ingredients...

Colors – Vintage tones (sepias, gold, cream, muted greens)
Papers - Design Paper (K&Co), torn book page, doily, paper scraps
Stamps – flowers, leaves, sentiment
Color Mediums – Distress inks, Archival ink, Crackle, Viva Gold, cream paint
Embellishments – ribbon, lace, mini-tag, button, press-studs, thread
Techniques – stamped resist technique (on bird), stitching, Grunge Rose, sewing, distress
Tools – Die cuts - bird, cage, flower
Themes –Vintage, tag, bird cage

And here's what I created using some of Sara's ingredients (my ingredients are listed in red). It's a perfect Fall/masculine card, but not with the traditional Fall colors you would expect.

Yep.. flower power. That's the theme this week for the sassy gals at Sassy Cheryl's challenge. I've been practicing making my own little flowers with a stylus..and different punches... not too bad for a rookie.

I really do love the turquoise, lavender and pale green combo and I've been using it a lot lately. The center of each flower has a coordinating rhinestone. That's a lot of bling and glitz for me!!

Who is 100?

Well, not in 'years', for sure.

It's hard to believe, but the talented peeps of Mo's Design Team are celebrating 100 challenges this week from the very first in October, 2009. While that's certainly a lot of challenges, it's significant to know that each challenge was not only unique, but through the power of the internet, more and more viewers resulted in more fans for Mo's Digital Pencil... the word spread like wildfire and today, Mo has more than 1,000 followers on her challenge blog alone.

So, to 'celebrate' this momentus occasion, we are 'celebrating' too... and that's the theme for this week's challenge. All you have to do to play along is make a card, 3-D paper project, scrapbook layout... or other project, to celebrate something.

I usually keep my cards quite simple and tailored... at least that's the style I like to think I follow. This little cutie is the happy 'digi' centerpiece for my card.

I colored with Copic markers, but added a bit of depth using Prismacolor pencils. I love the combination of salmon and aqua. The corner punch is a Fiskars punch I treated myself to recently (and I wasn't convinced I should keep). The background is sponged with Versa Magic chalk ink in Sea Breeze which is always perfect to give the illusion of a soft sky background.

Since this challenge represents a huge milestone, there will be three (3) winners selected from the challenge entries this week, and each will get (are you ready for this???)...

Sassy Cheryl's - Something Good to Eat

That's the theme my sassy teammate, Jackie, set for our challenge at Sassy Cheryl's this week. There's so many to pick from that pertain to cupcakes, cappuccino, lattes, and more. But I chose this little lovely as a perfect way to thank someone for hostessing a summer get-together.

I used Prismacolor pencils on the digi image, a copic marker to dye my ribbon, a couple of punches and an embossing folder for the background paper. The watermelon slice is a Judith Stamp stick.

I want to spread a bit of this sassiness all around, so I'm also entering this in these challenges...

It's Time to Get Sassy!

Happy Tuesday, everyone.. If you are here in the US on the East Coast, I hope that you are staying dry and you were able to dodge mean Irene!

It's Sassy Cheryl's challenge today, and this week, Sassy Judy hostesses and set the tone to Celebrate a Birthday for anyone! Easy, peasy, breezy! There's so many great Sassy Cheryl digis that are just perfect to turn into a birthday card for someone on your list.

I chose this darling little gal.. several of my co-sassys used it last week (what rock was I hiding under??) and I fell in love with it and had to use it. Isn't she the cutest?

She certainly was fun to color up. I paper pieced the digi and popped it up on dimensionals. To create a wall and floor effect, I used two different Cuttlebug folders and added a very slender velvet ribbon to look like the baseboard. The sentiment was computer-generated.

Follow The Recipe #19

One of my favorite challenges kicks off a new one today (alternating Sundays)...it's "Follow The Recipe" at Linda McClain's Catered Crop. Talk about one very talented lady.. sheesh!!

This week, after a nation-wide vote to break a tie, the winning entry selected was created by Dana. Using a bit of wizardry magic, here's the recipe that Dana used to create her lovely card. The items in red are the ingredients I picked from Dana's elements to create my own card with a vintage and masculine twist.

- Colors – jewel tones of pink, violet and blue, gold/yellow and brown

- Stamps and Stickers – gears or clock works, wizards and magic, butterflies, text/script, sentiment
- Color Mediums – stamping/distress ink, markers/Copics (to tint the ribbon), acrylic paint
- Embellishments – ribbon, brads, tags, polymer clay, glitter/Stickles
- Techniques – mixed-media, collage, use and/or layer digital stamps, edge the card with paint
- Theme – just because, Halloween, magic

I added some UTEE to the postmark, some chipboard, twine, lots of pop-dots, and changed my colors to black, tan, kraft and cream papers. That's the beauty of this challenge. You get to use the elements you want and then add your own.

You Are So Boo-tiful... to Me!

Heaven help us, all!! You certainly don't want to hear me sing! When I was preparing for this post, I couldn't help but think of the Joe Cocker song "You Are So Beautiful" because of the sentiment on this card.. so bear with me and thank your lucky stars you can't hear me singing!

Over the last several months, I have been so thrilled to have the opportunity to ink up all of the new releases of the Sassy Cheryl collection available through Kraftin' Kimmie's shop. And, this month, the new stamps are just poi-fect!! for Halloween card-making and decorating all of those goody boxes we are planning to make. Wait 'til you see them all. I just love them and will be using them for packaging up all of my Halloween treats! This new piece of rubbah is just the cutest little trick-or-treater.

Keeping You in Stitches

The challenge at Sassy Cheryl's this week, set by our Miz Sassy Jeni, (aka Flip Flop) is about stitches, real or faux.

This is one of Sassy Cheryl's newest images that she created at my request (actually I bugged her a lot!!), and I love it! I belong to a few knitting groups and a local knitting guild and this image is perfect to wish another knitter a happy birthday, or to say thanks for help with a knitting project.

This little gal is just stitching away and she's about the age that I was when I started knitting... believe me...it's never too early and never too late to learn this wonderful and very relaxing hobby. Did you know that you can solve all the problems of the world while you're knitting? Well, that's not exactly true.. but you can forget a lot about all of the trouble life hands out while keeping those needles moving.

Our group of knitters just happen to love a good cocktail or a glass of wine.. so we have a special mantra amongst us.. "knitters don't let knitters knit drunk".. wouldn't that be a great sentiment the next time I have to make a card for someone in my group?? (I am SOOO bad!!)

Follow The Recipe - Challenge #18

At Catered Crop's "Follow The Recipe", our challenge theme is made up of the ingredients the designer of the winning card used in his/her creation, and this week we had two winners and you can see their winning cards here.

This is a really fun challenge to try...and I hope you will give it a go. We get to pick recipe ingredients used in the winning entry. With a choice of two themes, I selected 'gardening' which led me to combine two Mo Manning digital images (The Big Guy Gardening and Potter's Bench) to create a perfect retirement card.

These are all of the ingredients were used in the winning cards, but the ones in red are what I used in my creation.

Colors – primary colors like red, yellow, blue (and green), and a little brown for dirt
Stamps and Stickers – anything that grows from a seed, gardening, back to school, worms!
Patterns – circles, checked/gingham, notebook paper
Color Mediums – stamping ink, markers (ProMarker, Copics)
Embellishments – buttons, ribbon, thread/twine
Tools – border punch, die cut shapes, embossing plates
Techniques – make a bookmark, mat your panels, tie ribbons through your buttons, machine sewing (I did faux sewing)
Theme – garden, back to school

What's Buggin' You?

That's the theme at the Sassy Cheryl challenge this week and I wanted to do something no one would suspect in keeping with this theme.

Using this little feisty, cranky little girl, and since there's no bugs in this Sassy Cheryl digi, I had to use this sentiment... it's so perfect. Do you remember being about this age and just hating boys?? I do, but honestly, it didn't last very long! HA!

So, you can see that you don't have to have an image that includes a bug in your Sassy Cheryl image.. you can interpret this any way you would like... as long as you use a Sassy Cheryl image.

A Perfect Day for Crafting

It's soooo hot here in the mid-West that I found myself wishing hell did freeze over... whew! It was 106 degrees at 11:00 a.m. this morning and now at 6:00 p.m. it's 110 degrees...and there's no relief in sight for days. So, I decided to stay inside for as much of the day that I could, do a bit of card-making and jump into a few challenges.

This is a darling image from Mo's Digital Pencil and makes a great masculine card, although it wouldn't necessarily have to be! Don't you just want to run up and buy all of his lemonade? Poor guy!

Pick a Fold

You guys are all so terrific... Thanks so much for coming to Peggy's Pity Party last week! I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and under-creative. Nothing seemed to come together. I feel so much better now.. and I appreciate all of the nice comments so much.

'Lots going on this week. We have a new sassy gal that joins us as of this challenge and it's Sassy Pat.. so check out her blog and all of her creativity. You are guaranteed to have a bit of inspiration from your visit.

Miz Sassy Jeni (aka Flip Flop) gets to hostess Sassy Cheryl's challenge this week and her theme is a special fold -- meaning anything other than a tent-type fold.. so we need to get creative and put our thinking caps on, right??

I decided upon a side step card for Jeni's challenge using one of Sassy Cheryl's newest images... which just happens to be perfect for the 'back to school' crew.

I used copics to color the image and a very old apple stamp (from ??) that I cut out, some apple designer paper (Paper Studio) and a MS grass punch, then created a computer-generated sentiment in MSWord. There's a few shadows in my photo... sorry 'bout that!

Wouldn't this be perfect for a grandma to send to her special grandson as school begins this Fall?

Challenge Time at Sassy Cheryl's!

Sassy Heather again gets to hostess and this week she's looking for ribbon and lace.. Super yikes!! I think my sassy friends are out to get me... but I'm not paranoid, or anything.. I think.. but I'm not sure!! HA!

If you are a follower, you know I'm not really big on frilly, feminine embellishments... although I do love images of little peeps... So, I really tried and even fretted throughout the weekend over this challenge. Yup.. even lost sleep over it..!!

Here's my feeble attempt adding lace.

I love this Sassy Cheryl image as I do all of her things. And, I love the papers, but my bow kinda stinks!!

Anyway, I do hope that you will overlook my stinky bow and play along with us. Hopefully you will ~~feel sorry for me ('cause I'm pathetic) and~~ play along with us in the challenge.

Challenge Time at Sassy Cheryl's

Sassy Heather is our hostess this week, and she set the theme for this week's challenge as "Circles". So that's circles, dots, spots, whatever!

For a bit of change from the typical rectangle and square cards, and keeping with my usual un-fussy style, I created this to have on hand. 'Seems I always need a card for a guy and never have them when I need them. I'll make a 4x4 envelope out of some coordinating designer paper to go with it.

I used the Nesties scallop die, and two circle dies to cut the finished image and surrounding red frame. The image is one of Sassy Cheryl's from a release in 2010.
